The quiet water reflects the last few minutes until the sky burns out.

On the western edge of Waikiki, where palm trees descend to the sea. The name Waikiki means "spouting fresh water," and this area was once a land of springs and streams nourishing wetlands, with taro fields and fishponds.

This place was once called "Kalia." Legends tell the story of a chief who waited for the return of his wife, who had left for a distant island. In the foreground shines the Duke Kahanamoku Lagoon, built in 1956. This cove bears the name of Duke Kahanamoku (1890–1968), the legendary waterman who grew up here and introduced surfing to the world.

For a few minutes before sunset, the sky quietly burns, the wind dies down, and the palm trees become dark silhouettes. The motionless water surface absorbs every bit of that warmth—the shutter captured that momentary calm.

When placed on your wall, that time just before sunset will unfold in your room. The sound of waves recedes, the light slowly changes color, and the end of the day gently fills the space. It's not a record of a trip, but the very time spent on that trip, present right there.

I'm Kai from Aloha Canvas. Kai means "ocean" in Hawaiian.

Hawaii is a second home to me. Over more than 30 trips, I've been drawn not just to the beautiful scenery, but also to the flow of time on the islands, the warmth of the people, and their heart for living in harmony with nature.

What I want to paint isn't just the scenery itself. I pour the entire atmosphere of that moment—the blowing wind, the falling light, the sound of the waves—into each piece.

At the root of my creative process is the spirit of Aloha, which cherishes compassion, gratitude, and harmony with nature. My concept is "Bring Hawaii Home."

There would be nothing more joyful than to deliver moments where, each time you display or gift a piece, you feel the Hawaiian wind and light, and the spirit of Aloha close at hand, allowing your heart to gently unwind.

How to choose the color of a picture frame

We are often asked, "What color is best for a picture frame?" There are two ways to choose. The first is to choose a frame that matches the picture. Darker pictures should be paired with darker frames, and lighter pictures with lighter frames. A white frame is recommended for cooler colors, and a natural frame for warmer colors. The second is to choose a frame that matches the color of the room. Choose a frame color that matches the color of the floor and furniture. If the room is decorated with white floors and furniture, choose a white frame; if the floors and furniture are natural, choose a natural frame; if the floors and furniture are dark, choose a brown frame; and if the room is monochromatic, choose a black frame.
