On days when there is no need to hurry, let’s take the long way around to the road that leads to the sea.

A small seaside town bathed in bright sunlight.

Narrow, old cobblestone alleys wind between stone houses adorned with flowers, leading down to the sea.

Beyond them lies the sparkling blue Mediterranean.
In the distance, a white sailboat drifts by, and a gentle sea breeze seems to sweep through the town.

Perched atop a stone wall is a little bird.

Does it gaze upon this view every day?
Or is it perhaps showing someone visiting for the first time the path it loves best?

There are some sights you can only find when you aren't rushing to your destination.

Admiring the flowers, listening closely to the sound of the sea.
By taking a slight detour, your ordinary day might look a little different.

Today, I’m taking the long way to the sea.

This piece is part of Kouken’s landscape art series, "The Quiet Invitation."
Through the scenery where this small bird lives, the work depicts a world where the viewer can step away from daily life and enjoy a moment of freedom.

Koken

My work explores the "inner space" where thought, memory, and existence intersect. Using heavy impasto, I construct phenomena such as pressure, collapse, and regeneration on the canvas, simultaneously expressing both stillness and depth.

Rather than depicting landscapes or specific objects, my work aims to evoke a "sense of being" and the "ineffable spaces" that lie beyond words.

My goal is to create an experience where the viewer can let go of their thoughts while facing the work, quietly returning to themselves.

I hope my art will serve as a lasting presence in your daily life, bringing a sense of calm and a serene atmosphere to your space.

My hobbies include Shorinji Kempo (405th class) and racquetball.
