Ameike in February

February 2025
I got on the ropeway to climb Mount Shimagare and Mount Chausu in the northern Yatsugatake mountains. When I arrived at the summit station, the strong wind made visibility extremely poor. I gave up on the summit and changed my destination to Ameike.
This is because it was thought that Ameike Pond would be sheltered from the wind as it was located downwind of Shimakareyama Mountain.
I descended 70m from the summit station and emerged onto the bank of the pond, beneath the clouds. I could see all the way to the opposite bank. As I had expected, the wind was calm.
I changed my crampons into snowshoes and headed to the other side of the river. Normally, you have to make a big detour to get to the other side.
This is an attraction that can only be enjoyed at this time of year when the pond freezes over.
After enjoying the snow hike for a while, we climbed back up to the summit station in strong winds.

Tama

A mysterious watercolor painter living in Choshi City, Chiba Prefecture.
I climb mountains and paint.
The long journey to the trailhead is a concern.
He also paints landscapes of his hometown, Choshi City.
He is currently working on his artwork while crossing the Alps from the Sea of Japan to the Pacific Ocean.
I'm working on it, but I'm only halfway there.
I don't know when I'll reach the goal.
I would be happy if you could share your mountain views.
