At the torii gate of Lake Kinrin

At a nearby house in Yufuin, Oita Prefecture, I saw a bird resting its wings on the torii gate of a shrine.

During the 30 minutes or so we stayed there, we were able to watch the lion quietly look out over the lake and groom itself.

A bird perched on the torii gate of a shrine is said to be a sign of good fortune to come. It is also said to be a sign that a wish will come true, so I felt this was an auspicious sight.

Tenso Shrine at Lake Kinrin is said to grant blessings of longevity, health, recovery from illness, business prosperity, and safety for the home. Since the area around Lake Kinrin is considered sacred, displaying it in your room will likely watch over your daily actions.

How to choose the color of a picture frame

We are often asked, "What color is best for a picture frame?" There are two ways to choose. The first is to choose a frame that matches the picture. Darker pictures should be paired with darker frames, and lighter pictures with lighter frames. A white frame is recommended for cooler colors, and a natural frame for warmer colors.
