Kira no Yado Subaru. — The ramblings of an amateur writer

"Why do I paint?" I sometimes ask myself that question. When I drill down to the core, the answer always ends up being, "Because I wanted to." But that doesn't really serve as an answer when faced with any individual work. For every piece, there is a "something" that compelled me to paint it, and that "something" is different every time. "Kira no Yado Subaru" is where my son always stays when he is in Biruwa. Two years ago in the autumn, my family and I visited, and I painted the path to the nearby swamp, "Kinmutō," and sent it to them. When I visited the following year, it was displayed in the entrance hall in a magnificent, custom-made frame. With a heart full of both gratitude and humility, I painted "Kira no Yado Subaru" and sent it to them this year. The delicious dinner, the hot springs, and the warmth of Mr. and Mrs. Kugo, which I could feel through our conversations. The birds constantly taking turns landing at the feeder. And the moments after breakfast spent idly watching the withered leaves drifting slowly down. The atmosphere created by all of these elements must have been the "something" that turned my "wanting to paint" into the resolve to actually "do it." Remembering such scenes, I finished the painting with a speed that surprised even a slow painter like me. I hope that through this painting, those who stay at this inn might share even just a little bit of the charm of that time.
